Co-Founder & Technical Manager
Dr. Brian Sheridan is the Co-Founder and Technical Manager of Air Scientific Limited. With a professional career spanning more than three decades, he brings exceptional scientific expertise, international research experience and technical leadership to the company’s operations.
Dr. Sheridan holds an Honours Bachelor’s degree in Analytical Science with a specialisation in Biology, a Master’s degree in Agricultural Science in Engineering Technology, a Ph.D. in Engineering Science and a Post-Doctorate in Chemical Engineering. During his postdoctoral research, he served as a Research Associate at the University of California, contributing to internationally recognised scientific programmes.
A pioneer in his field, Dr. Sheridan was instrumental in establishing one of Ireland’s first odour analysis laboratory, setting national benchmarks for emissions characterisation and sensory testing. His leadership continues to drive Air Scientific’s innovation in air quality assessment and odour monitoring and analysis.
Dr. Sheridan has authored and co-authored an extensive body of scholarly work, including peer-reviewed articles published in respected international journals such as Bioresource Technology, Biosystems Engineering, Journal of Biotechnology Advances, Journal of Chemical Technology and the Journal of the Air & Waste Management. In addition to co-authoring book chapters, he has presented widely at international conferences and produced numerous technical papers.
His expertise has also been sought at a policy level. Notably, he served as a Special Advisor to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the development of Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) Best Available Techniques for Ireland’s pig and poultry sector.
Dr. Sheridan’s areas of specialist knowledge and professional interest include bioaerosols, odour measurement and analysis, air dispersion modelling, biodiesel manufacturing, air pollution control engineering and design, landfill gas modelling, landfill odour control, gas management systems auditing and design, and biogas and landfill gas utilisation plant design including thermal design, just to highlight a few.
Dr. Sheridan is also actively involved with the VDI (Association of German Engineers), reflecting his commitment to continuous professional development and staying at the forefront of environmental science and engineering practices.
Beyond the leadership role, Dr. Sheridan is deeply committed to advancing the frontiers of environmental science. He continues to contribute to research development, share his expertise through professional networks and support the growth of innovative practices across the sector.
