Fallen Inspection Units

Air Scientific provides specialised environmental monitoring and occupational exposure assessment services designed for facilities engaged in the collection, reception and inspection of fallen animals and animal by-products. These operations are characterised by distinctive air quality challenges arising from the handling, sorting and preliminary treatment of carcasses prior to further processing or disposal.

Emissions from such sites commonly include odorous organic compounds, ammonia, hydrogen sulphide, volatile fatty acids and aerosols generated during unloading, storage and inspection activities.

Our stack emission testing programmes focus on quantifying volatile organic compounds, sulphurous gases, ammonia and particulate matter released through ventilation systems and process exhausts. This data is essential for verifying the performance of odour control equipment, such as chemical scrubbers and biofiltration units, and for demonstrating compliance with emission regulations applicable to animal by-product handling installations.

Ambient air monitoring is implemented to assess the dispersion of odorous substances and confirm that site perimeter concentrations remain within acceptable limits to protect the surrounding community.

To protect employees, occupational exposure monitoring is carried out to measure real-time concentrations of hydrogen sulphide, ammonia and organic vapours in reception and inspection areas. These programmes support effective risk management and ensure adherence to health and safety requirements governing confined or enclosed spaces where biological decomposition can accelerate gas generation.
